What to know before a dermal filler
Choosing the product, deciding on volume, and the changes to expect in the first few days.

A change in the skin is rarely a finding on its own. The same sign can be the shared face of several conditions, which is why dermatology does not decide on appearance alone: history, examination and, where needed, dermoscopy are weighed together.
The sections below gather the questions we are asked most often at the clinic. Even so, every skin has its own history, and a definite assessment can only be made after an examination.
How the assessment works
At the first appointment we record skin type, how long the complaint has been present, current medication and any previous procedures. Where needed a magnified dermatoscopic examination is carried out and the image stored for later comparison.
That examination determines which method is chosen. We talk through the options, how long each takes, the interval between sessions and the expected result; the patient daily routine is part of the plan.
What to pay attention to
- Keeping up sun protection both before and after the procedure.
- Telling the doctor about current medication, particularly anything that causes photosensitivity.
- Keeping to the planned intervals rather than shortening or stretching them.
- Contacting the clinic without delay in case of unexpected redness, blistering or pain.
What happens afterwards
Once the course is complete we recommend regular reviews so the result is maintained. The interval depends on the method used and on the general state of the skin.
The information shared in this article is for general guidance and does not replace a medical examination. The right approach for your own situation becomes clear after an assessment at the clinic.
